Doctor Who s9 - Confession Dial

I was asked to concept the Confession Dial from Doctor Who series 9 in 2015. This is an alternate unused version. I sketched through a bunch of options for the internal look and mechanism (my wip concepts shown here); the final actual version had an armillary sphere in the centre which I think worked better as an object... but I also liked the idea of the tiers spiralling infinitely uzumaki style shown here. I prepared this image quite a few times for different things... and the design ended up as the cover of a book.

I really liked the idea of Time Lord engineering being casually impossible, and having folded dimensions to the internal workings of the object... so the opening mechanism folds in an impossible way (centre point off centre etc :)
